Corporate responsibility

As a public power utility we have a special 'social responsibility' which we take very seriously.

We don't view this as an 'add-on' to our normal day-to-day activities. Social responsibility is integral to our business and governs everything we do.

This means embracing a corporate culture that considers the long-term interests of not only shareholders, but also customers, staff, the community and our natural environment.

We sum this up in the phrase 'private sector enterprise with a public sector conscience'.

Providing an affordable, secure and sustainable supply of electricity now and in the future requires balancing the demands of today with the needs of tomorrow.

Sustainability is key. Sustainability to us means fulfilling responsibilities to all our stakeholders over the long term as well as protecting the environment.

  • Taking responsibility for our actions
  • Looking after the environment
  • Supporting the community
  • Providing dependable and secure supplies
  • Providing value for money and stable pricing
  • Being open and transparent in how we do business
  • Being fair to all stakeholders - customers, shareholders, employees, suppliers and the general public.

The Health and Safety of everyone involved in or impacted by our operations is top priority among our social responsibilities.

Ours can potentially be a hazardous industry if not properly managed. Robust safety training and procedures are strictly adhered to.

We raise public awareness of the dangers of working around electricity with Press and radio campaigns and leaflets in different languages.

We see serving the community as much more than providing secure, affordable energy.

As a remote offshore utility, we are a partner in our small community and we continue support many charities and initiatives by directing resources at those of an environmental, educational or healthcare nature, where we have a business interest or knowledge to share.
