Box full of phones boosts Autism Jersey project

Autism phone collection

Powerhouse Sales Supervisor Phil Valente hands over the first collection of mobiles to Autism Jersey Fundraising manager Caroline Ashworth

It might only be three weeks since Christmas and the launch of our Donate Your Phone for Autism Jersey collection but the response from Powerhouse customers and staff has been terrific and the collection box was almost full to the brim when Fundraising Manager Caroline Ashworth called today to collect the first batch of old phones for the charity.

‘We thought the Powerhouse would be a good location for a collection point and this proves it,’ said Caroline. ‘We are very grateful to everyone who has taken the trouble to donate their old mobiles here and to Jersey Electricity and Powerhouse staff for their help.’

There are estimated to be more than 1,000 people living in Jersey with a form of autism. Autism Jersey’s Donate Your Phone project provides skills training and employment opportunities to people on the autism spectrum while also raising funds. The project trains volunteers how to clear data and, if necessary, repair old mobile phones before re-selling them. As well as the Powerhouse, the public can also donate unwanted mobiles, preferably with chargers and packaging, at Barclays Bank and the Autism Jersey Boutique on Bath Street.
