JDC Partnership sees addition of four public and two EVie car share charge points

Jersey’s growing number electric vehicle (EV) drivers will be able to charge while they watch a film, go for a swim or any number of other activities on the Waterfront as the expansion of Jersey’s EV charging network continues apace.

In collaboration with Jersey Development Company and EVie on-demand electric mobility club, Jersey Electricity has invested in four new 22kW public charging bays and two 7kW EVie charge points on the Waterfront underground car park. This latest installation brings the total number of public Evolve charging bays to 47 and increases EVie’s charge point facilities to four.

JE Director of Commercial Services Peter Cadiou said: ‘Our expansion of the Island’s public charging infrastructure is in support of the Government’s 2030 carbon neutrality ambitions. We’ve been delighted to work with the JDC, which owns the Waterfront car park and released the spaces, and at the same time help EVie expand its electric vehicle share operations.

‘Road transport accounts for around a third of the Island’s overall emissions and the electrification of road transport is one of several major steps Jersey must take to have any chance of achieving its aim to become carbon neutral by 2030.’

JDC MD Lee Henry commented: ‘We’re delighted that Jersey Electricity has invested in these six new electric vehicle public charging bays. JDC is focused on constructing sustainable buildings and sustainable communities. We also recognise the benefits of electric vehicles in reducing harmful emissions, improving local air quality and lowering carbon levels which helps towards the Government of Jersey’s target of carbon neutrality by 2030.’

Michael Burrow, co-founder of EVie, said:  ‘We are delighted to be working with JDC to extend our fleet of electric vehicles to the Waterfront, for the benefit of both residents and visitors alike; and delighted also to be building on our partnership with Jersey Electricity, which is providing the charging infrastructure for EVie vehicles. Together we are creating a more sustainable, convenient and connected transport system for Jersey, and helping to provide affordable access to electric mobility for all Islanders.’
