18/01/13 Powerhouse closes early but La Collette staffs up in freeze

Jersey Electricity is closing its Powerhouse store on Queens Road at 5pm today in the interest of public safety.

The retail electrical and toy store is normally open until 8pm, Monday to
Saturday, but with roads and pavements in the area becoming more treacherous as the evening draws in, the Company has decided to close early in the interest of customers and staff.

Meanwhile, extra power engineers will be on duty at La Collette Power Station throughout the weekend to ensure electricity supplies are maintained and extra
distribution staff have been deployed to deal with any customer supply issues.

The Company continues to generate at La Collette to supplement imported power while the Island is reliant on one interconnector to France and foresees no problems with capacity if the cold snap continues.

The record demand for electricity in Jersey so far was 161MW on 2 February last
year.
