We are experts in the supply, generation, transmission and distribution of electricity. The energy we provide is a mix of predominantly imported electricity from EDF in France, on-Island generation at La Collette Power Station and, since 2011, the States of Jersey-owned Energy from Waste (EfW) plant.
Until June 2012 two 90,000-Volt (90kV) subsea cables supplied power from France to Jersey. The first cable, EDF1, came to the end of its useful life in 2012 after 28 years’ service. We installed Normandie 3 in 2014, and Normandie 1 in 2016 as replacement for EDF1 over the same route. The current three live links give the Channel Isles access to 245MW of low carbon imported power of which Jersey 190MW
Generation at La Collette, from diesel engines and gas turbines, along with gas turbine at Queen's Road remains in place primarily for strategic security of supply.
