GJ1 60MW
The 40km, 60MW, Guernsey-Jersey link was laid in 2000 at the same time as Normandie 2 and the formation of the Channel Islands Electricity Grid (CIEG). It enabled Guernsey to benefit from lower cost, low carbon electricity for the first time. Though of primary benefit to Guernsey, it is strategically important to Jersey as Guernsey can export locally generated power back to Jersey.
N1 100MW
Normandie 1 is the 100MW replacement for EDF1 that came to the end of its life in 2012. N1 was installed along the same route as its predecessor in 2016. Combined with N3 and N2 it has enabled Jersey Electricity to virtually de-carbonise the Island’s electricity supply.
N2 90MW
Following the success of our first interconnector, EDF1, installed in 1984, and the continued increasing demand for electricity, we committed to a second link in 1995. The 90MW Normandie 2 was commissioned in 2000 along with a 60MW interconnector to Guernsey, (GJ1), creating the Channel Islands Electricity Grid (CIEG) in partnership with Guernsey Electricity.
N3 100MW
The £70m project is a shared investment with Guernsey Electricity as part of the CIEG. The 32km submarine cable follows a more southerly route and connects to a different part of the French network than its two predecessors, to enhance network security. Normandie 3 leaves France at Armanville and comes ashore in Jersey at Gorey.
