The lucky winners of our FreeGo Eagle Electric Bikes Competition are Ray and Rachel Wilkinson of St Brelade. The bright red lady’s Freego was an early birthday present for Rachel who will be celebrating next Sunday. Ray, a retired builder said: ‘I was dumbfounded when I got the call that we had won. I’ve never won anything.’
Ray and Rachel receive their electric bikes from Jersey Environment Engineer Chris Bester and Marketing Administrator Sally Coenen
Mum of four Rachel who works as a Tour Guide at La Mare Wine Estate, said: ‘We’ve recently had a new meter fitted and I thought you were calling about that at first. This is really wonderful. Three of our four children are coming from the UK for my birthday and they won’t be able to wait to try out the bikes.’
But not before Ray and Rachel do. Rachel has cycled all over Europe with friends and family in the past and is keen to get back in the saddle, while Ray said: ‘I need to do more exercise but a touch of arthritis now means I couldn’t cycle up hills. I had been looking at electric bikes, Rachel even wanted a red one, and then we saw your competition. They are fantastic and will enable us both to get out and about but take the strain if things get too difficult.’
Rachel, meanwhile, will be taking the strain in another sport next Saturday as part of a four-woman crew tackling the 50th Sark to Jersey Rowing Race. She’ll certainly be earning her birthday cake.
The FreeGo Eagles were supplied by Aaron’s Bikes, Gloucester Street. They have a range of up to 60 miles with pedal assist, and a high torque motor for good acceleration and excellent hill climbing.
