Our longest serving Mobile Customer Care Adviser retires

Jersey Electricity today says goodbye to its longest serving Mobile Customer Care Adviser who has helped thousands of Islanders in their homes to save on their energy bills.

Jacqui Crawley closed the door on her final home visit yesterday and with it a career that has spanned 45 years – 28 of them with Jersey Electricity. During that time, Jacqui estimates to have visited more than 10,000 Jersey homes advising customers how to get the most from their electric heating systems and save money.

‘I’ve always thought of my role as helping people, rather than advising them,’ says Jacqui, who is one of a team of three permanent Mobile Advisers in JE’s Customer Care Team. ‘I want to help them keep their money in their pockets, especially the elderly. ‘That way, I think we give customers confidence in the Company; a feeling that they can trust us to do the best for them. That’s what I’ll miss most; meeting people and feeling I’ve helped them.’

‘In the old days the role was was very much showing people who had moved into homes with electric heating how to operate it. Today, with so many switching from gas and oil to electricity, we offer to visit everyone who is new to electric heating to ensure they are getting the most value from their system.

'We also attend those who may be querying their bill. So many people aren’t aware how much various appliances cost to run or how to use them most efficiently. With climate change and carbon emissions such a big issue for all of us, one of the best ways to help is to use energy as efficiently as possible. It also saves people money and that’s what I like to do.'

Jacqui’s husband Ian retired as Operations Manager of Jersey Electricity last year. The pair, both keen rugby fans, met while working for South Wales Electricity. They fell in love with Jersey on their honeymoon 35 years ago, moved here and have served Jersey Electricity - and its customers - ever since.
