Support for FN&HC helps make lighter work for Health Visitors

Jersey Electricity has been supporting Family Nursing & Home Care for eight years by buying equipment the charity needs from funds saved by not sending corporate Christmas cards.

Last Christmas the work of FN&HC’s Health Visitors, who weigh around 1,000 new babies a year at least twice on home visits, became a little easier when they took delivery of seven new sets of ultra-light Seca scales and back-pack-style carrying cases, thanks to JE’s 2015 donation.

FN&HC’s Ivo Le Maistre Smith said: ‘Some of the scales we have are old and very heavy and needed to be replaced. Every Christmas Jersey Electricity helps us buy the equipment we need and this year we have been able to buy five Seca Electronic Baby and Infant Scales, two stand-on scales for slightly older children and a Leicester Height Measure.

‘These measurements are important to our Health Visitors in ensuring children are progressing normally and in looking after children who may be experiencing developmental problems. As you can imagine, when weighing tiny babies, every ounce is important so the scales must be accurate and consistent. We are very grateful to JE for again supporting us in this way.'

In 2014 new pulse oximeters, digital thermometers, stethoscopes and blood pressure machines were among the items purchased to supplement packs used by FN&HC’s 27 District Nurses and five-member crew of the charity’s Crisis Re-ablement Team.

In 2013 The Community Children’s Team bought two digital thermometers, a paediatric stethoscope and 10 nocturnal enuresis alarms. In 2012 nurses had their training sessions enhanced with a gift of two 50” flat screen TVs which double as computer monitors to enable Powerpoint presentations, webinars and conference calls.
