The company was incorporated 100 years ago on 5 April 1924, with the ambition to bring light and warmth to all Islanders. Prior to this, smaller private generating sites had provided localised electricity, but JE set the promise to build an electricity network to serve all 12 parishes and power Island life.

JE’s Chief Executive, Chris Ambler said, “We are incredibly proud to reach this milestone at Jersey Electricity. While lots has changed in 100 years, including how we generate electricity, JE is driven by the same values – to serve our customers and deliver affordable, secure and sustainable electricity. The electricity we have generated and imported has powered so many important moments in our customers’ lives and for the Island itself, this is something we are incredibly proud of and, personally, I find humbling.

“There have been so many pivotal moments over the past century for JE, many of which have been driven by our trademark of making bold, innovative decisions that bring long-term benefits to customers. Building La Collette in the 1960s and taking the bold decision to lay a submarine cable to import low carbon electricity from France in the 1980s are just two of many strategic and defining decisions that have greatly impacted the energy landscape in Jersey and delivered significant value to customers.

“As we note the achievements of the past, we also look to the future with great excitement. Islanders can continue to trust JE to be the energy partner they deserve – always with an eye on the future to ensure we bring customers the best, most innovative and cost-effective energy solutions. Powered by a committed team of employees, we will continue to put customers at the heart of our service.  We thank all our customers for entrusting us with this great company – their company – over such a long time.”

As we enter our second century, we will double-down on three key themes.

·         To work hard to develop cost-effective, innovative products and services that are affordable, secure and sustainable.

·         To accelerate investment in renewable sources of energy, such as solar and wind and continue to closely monitor tidal energy and introduce it when viable.

·         To invest in modern “smart” grid technology to bring this power to where it’s needed.
