Parkinson's is a progressive condition, and support on the Island is available through Parkinson's Jersey. The charity has been supporting those living with the disease for many years.
The charity offers a range of support for Islanders with Parkinson's, including a helpline, as well as both online and in-person activities. These sessions provide members with the opportunity to access support, connect with others facing similar challenges, and stay active.
Former Chair Janine Coxshall and new Chair Alastair Torvaney approached JE in late 2025 seeking funding to continue their successful seated and standing exercise class for another year. This project aligned perfectly with our health pillar, which focuses on promoting healthy lifestyles and supporting Islanders diagnosed with Parkinson's.
The class has been running for over 16 years and is led by local dance instructor Elizabeth Robinson. Participants take part in a series of stretches and movements set to music, which can be performed either seated or standing, depending on individual ability and preference.
The benefits of the class are clear. Attendees have the opportunity to socialise and connect with others experiencing similar challenges, while staying active and enhancing their overall wellbeing and morale.
