As we mark the fifth day of recovery efforts from Storm Ciarán, it's heartening to share that we've made significant strides in our restoration initiatives throughout the Island. With the concerted efforts of over 80 personnel distributed across 20 specialised teams, we are making headway in bringing power back to affected areas.

As we enter the next phase of restoration, it's important to understand why these last steps can take longer, even though they affect fewer customers.

After a severe storm, the initial focus of restoration efforts is on repairs that will benefit the largest number of customers — this often includes major lines and substations that serve hundreds of homes and businesses. As we make progress, the nature of the work shifts to addressing smaller, more localised issues.

These final repairs often involve intricate work on transformers, individual lines, or connections to homes. Each job might restore power to a single household or a small neighbourhood, but it requires nearly the same amount of time and resources as the larger repairs do.

The storm's effects were substantial, yet the community's reaction has been equally remarkable. The exceptional solidarity and encouragement from our customers highlight the resilience for which our Island is celebrated.

Current Status:

We currently have around 80 personnel working around the Island, with an additional 30 colleagues providing essential support to these teams. This afternoon we have focussed on restoration in Mont Les Vaux, Route de la Francheville, Le Marais, Grande Route de St Ouen, Fliquet, Old Beaumont Hill, La Rigondaine, Mont Nicolle, Vallée des Vaux, and Trinity Hill.

Latest Restorations Completed:

The teams so far today have completed 17 jobs, with well over 700 restorations now completed, and  fewer than 80 customers remaining without power (these customers are our priority).

Challenges Faced:

The remaining outages often involve individual lines serving fewer customers or even single homes. These repairs are just as important to us, but they are more time-consuming on a per-customer basis. Each case may require a detailed assessment, specialised equipment, and sometimes even bespoke solutions to navigate the unique challenges posed by localised damage.
