Jersey Electricity is continuing to repair the significant damage to its electrical infrastructure caused by Storm Ciarán. Whilst the overall network coped well with the challenging conditions, repairs are still needed to a considerable number of overhead lines brought down by the storm.

Engineers are prioritising vulnerable customers and are also advising how long some areas may take to repair due to the type of damage caused, the difficulty accessing storm damaged locations and the forecast of more high winds in the coming days.

Some repairs may take several days to complete and JE is discussing options to help customers with their arrangements. Whilst many will make their own arrangements to stay in their homes or temporarily move to family or friends, more vulnerable customers may need extra assistance to help with alternative accommodation.

JE CEO Chris Ambler said: “The amount of damage Storm Ciarán has caused is considerable. We are using every asset and facility available to us to safely complete repairs as soon as possible. However, some repairs may take several days, and we understand that customers without power need certainty and practical support. Where necessary, we are arranging temporary accommodation in hotels to ensure customers have access to essential supplies. We appreciate many people who are off power will be receiving practical support from friends and family for which we are grateful.”
