Name: Lara Mendonca
Role: Customer Care Advisor
When did you join JE? I joined JE on the 5th Of August 2024

What was your journey from education through to your current role at JE? I finished college in 2021 after taking a hospitality and tourism course, I then became a sales assistant with a daily role of dealing with face-to-face customers. For a while I tried exploring different roles such as dentistry as a trainee dental nurse which were all customer based. I always knew that dealing with customers was always something I was intrigued by. When the role opened at JE for customer care advisor role, I knew it was something that would be worth going for. Being a customer care advisor is incredibly rewarding because it allows us to make a real difference in someone’s day. We become the friendly voice that helps resolve issues, answer questions and provide reassurance, often turning frustration into satisfaction. It’s a role that builds strong communication skills, patience, and empathy. Each interaction allows an opportunity to learn something new, solve problems and contribute to a positive customer experience.

What one piece of advice would you offer people considering career opportunities? My biggest piece of advice would be to focus on what energises you. Whether it's solving problems, connecting with people, or working behind the scenes to improve processes. Understanding what gives you a sense of purpose will help guide your path. Trust your instincts, stay curious, and remember that every experience adds value to your journey.

Role: Control and Instrumentation technician
When did you join JE? I joined in August 2012 after finishing my A levels at Hautlieu.

How has JE supported your career progression? JE put me through the apprentice scheme as a distribution electrical fitter as well as supporting me in Level 2 and 3 City and Guilds Power Distribution.

Alongside the role change, they supported my further studies with a HNC in Process Engineering and I’m currently enrolled for a HND in Control and Instrumentation with my sights set on a degree in this subject.

What one piece of advice would you offer people considering career opportunities? My advice would be don't be afraid of change and the enormity of the unknown and what it may bring, everything can be learned.

Name: Bob Kersten
Role: Solar Developer
When did you join JE? I joined Jersey Electricity two and a half years ago. It was an exciting time to come aboard, right as the company was growing its investment in large-scale roof and ground mounted solar projects, which aligns perfectly with my background and passion for sustainable energy development.

How has JE supported your career progression? JE has been incredibly supportive. They gave me the opportunity to focus on developing major solar projects, offering the autonomy and resources needed to manage complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives. This has allowed me to blend my technical expertise with essential skills in community engagement and negotiation, accelerating my growth in the energy sector.

What one piece of advice would you offer people considering career opportunities? My top advice is to chase the roles and industries that are working to solve big, exciting global problems, especially in areas like sustainability and clean technology. Find a place where your daily work makes a tangible, positive difference—don't just look for a job, look for a mission!
