An update to your electricity tariff

An update to your electricity tariff

From 1 March 2026, a 2.5% increase to electricity prices came into effect. This will be shown in the first electricity bill you receive after 1 March.

We understand that any increase in household costs can feel challenging, and we want to assure you that we have kept this adjustment as low as possible. For a typical all-electric home using around 10,000 units of electricity a year, the change amounts to around £60 per year, or just over £1 per week*.

We first announced this change in November 2025 and chose to delay the introduction until March 2026 so that it wouldn’t affect bills during the colder winter months.

If you’re concerned about your energy costs or would simply like to chat through the support available, our Customer Care team is here to help. We can make sure you’re on the best tariff for your needs and heating system and offer practical advice on using energy more efficiently.

Ground source heat pump outside a modern home

What's your source?

Two types of heat pump are widely available, air source and ground source. When we talk about heat pumps, we are generally talking about air source heat pumps!

Air source heat pumps are the most common option in Jersey, as they are far easier to install. They capture the heat in the air outside your home and boost it to heat your rooms and water. The main requirement of an air source heat pump is a space outside your home with clearance for the air to flow around it.

A ground source heat pump needs a loop to be drilled vertically or laid horizontally, this is often prohibitively expensive.

Highly efficient heating

For every unit of low carbon electricity used to power a heat pump, they'll generate up to five units of useable heat, making them incredibly efficient and economical to run.

Harnessing this energy ensures low running costs and a significant reduction in emissions when compared with gas and oil.

Installing an air source heat pump

Air source heat pumps need an outdoor location with adequate airflow, some indoor space for your hot water cylinder, and radiators or underfloor heating to distribute the heat. There’s been huge progress in heat pump technology in recent years, meaning heat pumps are no longer limited to new or well-insulated homes.

Switching from a fossil fuel boiler to an air source heat pump

It's easier than ever to switch from oil or gas to an air source heat pump. Our team can carry out a detailed survey of your property and heating system to ensure a heat pump will meet your needs.

The biggest difference between a fossil fuel boiler and a heat pump, is that it’s more efficient to keep your home at a consistent cosy temperature, rather than turn heating off when you’re out during the day. This simple change makes for a ‘set and forget’ system, while also ensuring the heat pump runs efficiently, which more than offsets the extra hours when your heating is ‘on’.

Protection and peace of mind

An investment in a heat pump is a purchase for the long term. That’s why JE partnered with Vaillant, a company with over 150 years of experience in the heating industry.

A heat pump that is maintained and regularly serviced should last in excess of 15 years. And in partnership with Vaillant we're pleased to offer Jersey Electricity customers a market-leading 10-year warranty.
