In 2012 Jersey Electricity signed a 10-year power supply agreement with EDF from whom we import around 95% of Jersey’s electricity. Last year we renegotiated that agreement, extending our importation framework by five years to 2027. This agreement guarantees that all our imported power comes from certified low carbon nuclear and hydro sources in France. Today, around a third of Jersey’s electricity is supplied from renewable hydro plants. That amounts to almost 220 million units a year or enough to power 30,000 Island homes using an average 7,200 units a year. Discover how EDF’s hydro power plants work in this short video:
