Have you worked at JE since you left full-time education?

I left university early due to personal circumstances and joined JE in the Imagination Toy department.

It was meant to be a temporary job while I looked for something more suited to my interests but I quickly integrated into the JE Family and saw that there were career opportunities within the business.

I had scope to move around within JE to challenge and better myself.

What was your first role at JE?

I was a Sales Advisor at Imagination.

What made you go for that role?

It paid the bills whilst I looked for an alternative job.

How have your skills developed during your time with JE?

Each role within JE has helped me develop new skills and hone existing skills. Imagination taught me to have fun whilst working and showed me that a career is not always just about the money (it helps) but it is important to enjoy what you are doing.

Beyond computers helped improve my communication skills as the main part of the job was to sell and give technical advice to customers, it also helped me deal with difficult and challenging situations, as within retail you always come across disgruntled customers.

Logistical Supervisory work taught me how to manage people, work well within a team, and also how to prioritise work to ensure work is completed on time and accurately.

HSE department has provided extensive technical training to ensure I can carry out my job to my full potential and have invested time and money to achieve this. It has also helped me develop and become a more confident speaker when carrying out training in front of larger audiences.

How has JE supported your career decisions?

It advertised jobs internally and gave me the opportunity to apply. Managers and employees are supportive and did not take offence when I applied for internal jobs out of their department.

JE has also helped me achieve my career goals and ambition to progress within the company and where possible helped guide me in the right direction.

Finally, what advice would you give someone just starting out in their chosen career?

Always give your best. Even if the career you are currently in is not exactly what you want to do, it may open up new and exciting doors and opportunities to get you where you want to be.
