Construction Council Awards recognise environmental excellence

IFC5, the second building of the International Finance Centre, won the Jersey Electricity-sponsored Sustainability Award at this year’s Jersey Construction Council Awards held at the Royal Showground on Saturday.

Only the third building in Jersey to achieve a BREEAM ‘excellent’ environmental rating, IFC5 provides almost 70,000 sq ft of supper-prime Grade A office space over six floors. It was designed by MJP Architects, with Waterman Group plc as full-service engineers, and built by Camerons.

In making the award, which was presented by JE CEO Chris Ambler, judges look for a project that benefits the Island as a whole, is there for future generations and has a significant environmental benefit. The long-standing award is even more important as we move towards a carbon neutral future.

IFC5 is constructed to the highest standards, going beyond the requirements of local building bylaws, and the minimum mandatory energy requirements for BREEAM excellent. Column-free floor plates and excellent levels of natural light make IFC5 a great place to work. Innovative renewable heat pump heating and cooling technologies reduce energy consumption, and secure bike storage and showers encourage sustainable transport for employees.

Also short-listed were Espoir and French Harbour Boardwalk.
